Is it possible for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to make it to the playoffs?

Is it possible for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to make it to the playoffs? After falling short against Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent IPL 2024 encounter on Sunday, April 21, at Eden Gardens, Royal Challengers Bengaluru experienced yet another serious setback.

Chasing a massive target of 223 runs, RCB lost by just 1 run in spite of a heroic effort. Despite a suspenseful conclusion, the Bengaluru team lost and suffered their seventh consecutive defeat of the season.

With only two points from eight games, RCB is still at the bottom of the points standings following the loss. They have dropped important games this year, and as they get ready for the next six games, their path to the playoffs has become more difficult.

RCB’s Upcoming Games

On April 25, RCB will now go to Hyderabad to play Sunrisers Hyderabad. After that, they have two more road games against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. Following that, home games against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. They also play Gujarat at home in between the road matches against GT and PBKS.

The most points the Royal Challengers can possibly score as they head into the final six games of the IPL 2024 season is 14. 14 points has never been sufficient for a club to make the playoffs in the current IPL since the addition of 10 teams.

Teams that finished with 14 points in the 2020 and 2021 seasons qualified, and RCB was the winner in one of those seasons. It will be challenging for them, though, because of the teams above them.

RCB will now need to win each of their remaining six games, as a loss would mean the end of the campaign. They still have hope with 14 points, but the flame will only ignite if Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders keep up their winning ways.

Since RR and KKR play each other on May 19, if teams like RR (ranked first with 12 points from 7 matches) and KKR (ranked second with 10 points from 7 matches) continue to win their remaining games, RCB will still be in the hunt even though they won’t have to play either of them. Although winning six games is essential for Virat Kohli and company, it would also boost RCB’s chances if SRH loses to them in the following match and then goes on to win at least five more. Right now, it seems like there is very little possibility for RCB to advance.
