October 2023 Tourism Trends: Leading Nations Fueling Sri Lanka’s Travel Boom: According to data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, in the first 22 days of October, approximately 77,763 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka, with a total of 1,094,019 arrivals reported for the year 2023.

Daily Arrival Averages:

In this period, the daily average of tourist arrivals stands at 3,534, which is an increase from the previous week’s average of 3,359. This indicates a positive trend in the number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka.

October Highlights:

Notably, in the first week of October, a total of 23,073 tourists arrived, and in the second week, the number remained high at 23,434. The third week saw a further increase to 31,265 arrivals, highlighting the growing interest in visiting the country.

India Tops the List:

However, among the countries that have been closely monitored in October, India stands out with 147,789 tourists, of which 53% arrived via air travel. India continues to be a significant contributor to Sri Lanka’s tourism, with 20,369 tourists contributing to the total arrivals and 26% opting for air travel.

Variety in Source Countries:

Among these arrivals, 7,089 tourists came with tour packages that include participation in the second place of Russia and the United Kingdom with 9% each, while 6,287 tourists with 8% each traveled in packages from Russia, the United States, France, and Spain.

Diverse Origins:

Notably, tourists arriving in Sri Lanka in this period come from various countries including Germany, China, Australia, the Maldives, the United States, France, and Spain, contributing to the diverse traveler landscape in the country.
